Nigel Lythgoe is bringing the world of song to E! with his latest series Opening Act, which kicks off Monday, July 9 at 10/9c. But it’s not like the other music-based reality shows we all know.
The Artist Development Team featuring Nigel Lythgoe, Martina McBride, Pete Wentz, Jason Derulo, Nick Cooper and Antonina Armato have scoured the Internet, searching for the very best performers, singers and songwriters to help skyrocket them from internet obscurity to the main stage of this summer’s biggest concert tours.
In Opening Act, there are no auditions, no judges and no eliminations as undiscovered talent get the surprise of their lives and the opportunity to open for the biggest names in music, like Jason Mraz, Rod Stewart, LMFAO, Gym Class Heroes, Brad Paisley, Jason Aldean and Nicki Minaj, among others.
The undiscovered sensations don’t even know they’re being considered for the opportunity until the show’s host, Olivia Lee, surprises them… in some unusual ways. But we will quickly see that there is more involved in opening on stage for the first time than vocal coaching, songwriting and seemingly endless rehearsals. Most times, these openers all have personal challenges to overcome. The Artist Development Team will help them every step of the way and host Lee will guide them through the process.
Running the gamut on genres, this show is sure to provide us with some fresh and wonderful new music and musicians to fall in love with!
